Robert H. "Bob" Krueger

Robert H. “Bob” Krueger, born in Mason City, IA in 1925 and longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on October 3, 2017.  After graduating high school in Iowa, Bob joined the US Navy to serve during World War II. Bob was a member of the Underwater Demolition Team in Subic Bay, Philippines.  After the war, Bob attended Iowa State University where he was elected as president of his fraternity, Sigma Nu, and received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Architecture.

Bob moved to Santa Fe, NM in 1952 and then to Albuquerque in 1964.  He was an architect with W.C. Kruger & Associates in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, and served as president of the firm for many years.  During his tenure at the Kruger firm, Bob designed many prominent buildings in New Mexico, including: the City/County (One Civic Plaza) office building, St. Joseph’s (Lovelace) Hospital, Bernalillo County Hospital’s Critical Care unit (UNMH), the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court Building, the American Bank of Commerce building, Tanoan Country Club, the Veterans Administration Hospital, the Public Service Company office tower, the Southwest Indian Polytechnic Institute facility, and Del Norte High School in Albuquerque; the First National Bank building of Dona Ana County; Memorial General Hospital in Las Cruces; Santa Fe High School and Santa Fe Downs race track; and many projects at Sandia National Laboratories.  In addition, Bob designed the University of New Mexico’s School of Medicine’s Basic Science building, football stadium press box, biomedical research facility, Humanities building, and Woodward Lecture Hall, as well as New Mexico State University’s Pan-American Center and Corbett Center Student Union building. He retired in 1984 from W.C. Kruger and remained involved with architecture as a member of the Albuquerque-based firm of Dean, Krueger, and Associates.  Bob was honored in 2003 when he received the American Institute of Architects’ New Mexico Architects Medal for Life Time Achievement.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and active in numerous professional organizations.

Bob enjoyed adventurous world travel with his loving wife, Dr. Jo Ann Krueger, a former Albuquerque Public Schools administrator and University of New Mexico Department of Education professor.  Bob was an avid sailor, starting as a young boy in Clear Lake, IA, where he learned sailing and built his own iceboat.  He sailed as often as possible with friends off Baja California, the coast of Maine, the Virgin Islands, and near San Diego, CA.

Jo Ann preceded Bob in death in 2009.  He is survived by two daughters, Roberta Krueger, MD and husband, Ed Parsons of San Antonio, TX; and Sandra Krueger Eckert and husband, Martin W. Eckert, Jr. of Albuquerque.  He is also survived by four grandchildren, Scott Stuckey, Kristin Stuckey, Aubrey Eckert-Gallup and husband, Robert Gallup, and Regina Eckert, as well as two great-grandchildren, Moses and Sophia Stuckey. Bob’s family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Home Instead Senior Home Care of Albuquerque, and in particular his most recent loving and compassionate caregivers Deanna, Phyllis, Lorraine, and Kelleigh, for their kindness and assistance.  In lieu of flowers, please toast Bob with your favorite Scotch or consider donating to KNME New Mexico PBS or another charity of your choice.

A Memorial Service for Bob will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Lomas.  Cremation has taken place and private interment at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe will follow at a later date.
