Robert Ernest Dixon

Robert E. Dixon, 67, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017 surrounded by his loving family in Albuquerque, NM. He entered this world on February 13, 1950 in Portage, WI, born to Lyle and Bernadine Dixon. He moved with his family to Albuquerque in 1952 and always considered Albuquerque to be his home. He graduated from Highland High School in 1968 and attended Highlands University before joining the US Army in 1971. He was honorably discharged in 1978, returning home. He worked for the Department of Energy from 1980-1986. During this period of time, he earned a 4 year BBA degree from the University of Albuquerque in just 2 1/2 years. He always was a horse lover and being that he was the "Reader of the Wood", he changed his life by taking a job on Vermejo Park Ranch in 1986-1990. He loved the history and beauty of Northern New Mexico. After leaving the ranch, he and his family moved to Raton where he resided until September 2016. At that time he moved to Albuquerque to be near his family. Even though he suffered most of his life with a crippling arthritic disease, he managed to always have a smile on his face, to stay positive and taught his family to be appreciative of life even though you are not always dealt with the hand you might want. Bob always enjoyed a good conversation with family and friends. He always kept track of world events and would "debate" with anyone who would listen! If you really wanted to see him light up ask him about his "doggies." He is survived by son, James O. Dixon and his wife, Adrienne, who cared for him in his last years, daughter, Joanna Hernandez and husband, Francisco and Diane Dixon. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Anthony, Aurelia, Hailey, Dillon, Calla, Lucian, William, Brianna, and Nolan. Also surviving is his brother, James J. Dixon and wife Beatrice. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 8:15 a.m. followed by a Mass at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Josephs Dr. NW Albuquerque, NM 87102.
