Robert W. Day was born in Gilmore City, Iowa on Wednesday, February 3, 1926 to Robert N. and Ruth Whitcomb Day. His parents and sisters, Dawn, Daphne and brother, H.J. have preceded him in death.
He graduated from Gilmore City High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He entered Simpson College after World War II, lettered in football, was member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, and met his future wife, Clarice Shawhan there. They were married December 28, 1948 and he graduated from Simpson in January 1949. They moved to Albuquerque in 1960 with their children, Tom, Dan and Elizabeth and have resided here since. Robert has six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. First United Methodist Church was his church home and he was a member of the Masonic Order, Kiwanis Club of Albuquerque and New Mexico Trout. He was an avid fly fisherman, wood worker and player, coach and sponsor of fast pitch softball teams. In 1986 he was elected to the Albuquerque Softball Baseball Hall of Fame. In 1970 he incorporated and managed Video Scan, a closed circuit television security company and retired in 1990.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, September 21, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 315 Coal Ave SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Robert will be interred in Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Family Promise Of Albuquerque.
