ROBERT J. SR., "BOB" BUXTONOur loving father, Bob Buxton, age 91, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012, as the result of complications of M.R.S.A. Bob was a member of the Greatest Generation and served in the Army with the 8th Air Force in World War II, specializing as a radar technician, radio operator and B-24 tail gunner. Bob worked 32 years at Sandia Laboratories in Albuquerque from 1959 to 1991; he so loved his work, he worked 5 years beyond his retirement age as a Quality Control Expert and Consultant with the Department of Energy. Bob's expertise in explosives were utilized in both the Korean and Vietnam wars, lunar missions, as well as the nuclear armament program in engineering for Los Alamos National Laboratory. His education in preparing for these life duties were at Ohio State, Heidelberg College, Ohio Wesleyan University, and Lawrence College in Appleton, Wisconsin where he earned a degree in Chemistry. Bob was a private pilot, inventor, an avid sportsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing. His favorite hobby was being a master builder, constructing in his lifetime two family cabins for future family generations to enjoy. Bob was loving, kind, generous, and a charitable man, always helping others, as a scout master for the Boy Scouts of America and supporting overseas orphanages. Bob was a Green Bay Packer fan of 64 years and enjoyed watching pro football. Bob is the son of Charles and Myrtle Buxton. He has joined his wife Margaret in Heavenly grace, who passed in 1999. Bob is survived by his brother, Charles Buxton of Grand Forks, ND; his sons, Robert J. Buxton, Jr., (Jim) and his wife, Debbie of Phoenix, AZ, and Lawrence C. Buxton (Larry) and wife, Barbara of Albuquerque; daughter, Lucy and husband, Mike Daniels of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Camron Paige Buxton of Phoenix, AZ, James Seth Buxton and wife, Suzan Buxton, M.D. of Scottsdale, AZ, Nick Brown and wife, Cindy of Albuquerque, and Justin Daniels and wife, Ashley of Albuquerque; and great-grandchildren, Bailey Buxton of Phoenix, AZ, Curtis Brown, Michael Cody Brown and Madisen Brown, all of Albuquerque. Bob is also survived by nieces and nephews, William and Lu Buxton, Sandy and Don Paessler, Cheryl and Bob Kroll, Chuck and Brenda Buxton, and their families, all of Wisconsin, and Diana and Randy Szlabick M.D. of Grand Forks, ND. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 30, 2012, 11:00 a.m., at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel on the grounds of Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, with Rev. Terry Ash officiating. Viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Cremation and placement of the urn will be at Old Town Mosaic niches 3 and 4-C, next to his wife of 55 years.
