Robert "Bob" Dean Becker
Robert "Bob" Dean Becker, 93, from Albuquerque, NM passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2017 from complications with COPD.
Bob was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM. Shortly after graduation from Albuquerque High School in 1942, he eloped with his sweetheart, Geraldine Mable Hatcher to Los Lunas, NM and was married for 74 years. In 1944 he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served aboard the USS Long Beach in the South Pacific off the coast of the Philippines during WWII. After serving his military term, he returns to Albuquerque and started a career at Sandia National Labs that lasted 31 years. He was a research machinist and later became a department supervisor. He helped in the development of technologies that have improved the lives and safety for many people. In addition to his service at the Labs, he participated in land development and real estate investments in the local communities till his passing. He is best known for his ability to "say it like it is"; the love and dedication he had for his family, and his generosity in helping others. Robert is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Geraldine; parents, Arthur Edward Becker and Mae Hawthorne Laub-Becker; brothers, Arthur E. and Charles L. Becker; sons, Robert Jr., Richard W. and Donald D. Becker; grandson, Douglas V. Anderson; great-grandson, Cameron A. Anderson. Bob is survived by his brother, James "Jim" Brewington Becker; grandchildren, Michelle Smith, Sandra Lyon, and Jason Anderson; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Garrick, Dadje, and Paige Anderson, Victoria and Evan Lyon, and Shu and Jia Smith; and many other family members.
Services will be held Thursday, April 20, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM. Immediately following the service Military Honors will be given to Robert and his son, Donald at their gravesite. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Salvation Army, give.salvationarmyusa.org.
