It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our dear father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Robert Kenneth Abston, a longtime resident of Albuquerque. Ken was born on October 16, 1932 in O'brien, TX to Mamie and Clarence Abston and passed from this life on October 23, 2017 after living most of his life in New Mexico. He will be greatly missed by those who survive him: daughter, Debra "Debbie" Kenner and her husband, Larry Kenner of Cedar Crest and daughter, Michele Harpstrite of Texarkana, AR. He also leaves behind 6 dearly loved grandchildren, Randy Kenner, Justin Kenner, and his wife, Felicia, Joe Kenner, Ashley Reed, Jon Reed, and Courtney Reed. Ken was the proud great-grandfather to 6 great-grandsons who will carry on his love of life and family: Max and Jack Kenner (Randy), Abston Kenner (Justin and Felicia), Jordan and Brayden Torian (Courtney), and Elijah Reed (Jon and Jayden). Special love is sent to Mikaela Montoya, Felicia's daughter and Glaiza Charles, girlfriend of Joe, who have become part of the family during the past few years.
As a child, Ken attended school in Santa Fe and El Rito, NM. He joined the Heat & Frost Insulators, Local 76 as a young man and was a lifelong member. He met his wife and mother of his children, Betty Bohn Abston while working in Los Alamos, NM. They had many wonderful years together raising their daughters. Ken opened his own business, ABCO Insulation, in 1985 and retired in 1992.
Ken was also a member of Massena Lodge No. 513 and the Elks Lodge of Albuquerque. He & Betty were active in a number of bridge groups.
After retiring, Ken married Patricia Espinosa, who predeceased him in April, 2012. His final years were spent enjoying time with his family and watching the Dallas Cowboys and the UNM Lobo basketball games on TV. He was very grateful for his caring neighbors and the daily pleasures of life.
A funeral service will be held Monday, October 30, 2017, 12:00 noon, at FRENCH - Wyoming.
