Rita Mae (Watkins) Robertson

Rita Mae Watkins Robertson, 94, was called home by our Lord Friday, May 13, 2022.

Rita was born at home January 30, 1928 in Portales, New Mexico.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lillian; husband, TJ “Red” Robertson; and her parents, Chloe Sophronia Gibson Watkins and Harmon Dwight Watkins.

Her family moved many times as her daddy followed the oil field work in New Mexico. She graduated high school May 15, 1946 from Jal High School, and the family soon moved in 1946 to Albuquerque so that Rita could attend and graduate from Draughon's Business College. She then worked for Navajo Freight (Albuquerque Freight and Storage at the time) where she met her future husband, TJ ”Red” Robertson. They were married 65 years until his passing in 2016.  Rita was the treasurer at Alameda Baptist Church for more than 40 years.  She was well known for her incredible cooking skills and her beautiful flower gardens.

Rita is survived by son, Tim Robertson and wife, Maureen; sister, Berna Dean Lee and brother-in-law, Wayne; granddaughter, Jenipher Abbie Sollars and husband, James; grandsons, Kurt Jason Robertson and Kristoffer Luke Robertson and wife, Cherice; great-grandson, Leland James Robertson; and many other loved family members and friends.

We will gather in memory with a special viewing service Tuesday, May 24, 2022, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at FRENCH-University.  Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2022, 1:00 p.m., at Alameda Baptist Church, 8818 2nd St. NW.  Interment will take place on Thursday, May 26, 2022, 11:30 a.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
