Rita Juanice Pitts

Rita Pitts, 84, was called home to be with her husband, Herb Pitts, and her parents, Buck and Ora Rayburn, on Monday, February 20, 2023.

She was born on March 10, 1938 in Lubbock, TX, to Buck and Ora. Rita grew up in Albuquerque, attending Highland High School and ultimately retiring from Sandia Labs, after other roles in real estate, the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, and other leading companies. She also lived part of her life in California before returning to New Mexico.

Rita loved working outdoors and in making a wonderful home for herself, Herb, and their cavalcade of dogs from Animal Humane New Mexico, of which she was a passionate supporter. She was also a member and past President of the Albuquerque PEO chapter.

Rita was a smart, focused, caring person. In the last two years of her life, after the death of Herb, she and her stepson, Brett, as well as his family, Nicole and Colette, had the opportunity to build even deeper friendships, which they will miss and for which they are tremendously grateful. She will also be missed by her broader group of friends from PEO, Sandia, the Canyon Club, Animal Humane, and beyond.
