Richard "Dick" Ellis Lambert USN Ret.

d. January 1, 2019

Richard Ellis Lambert “Dick”  born November 14, 1928, in Los Angeles, California left this earth on January 1, 2019 to embrace his next adventure.

Diagnosed with cancer, he and his beloved wife fought its ravages for a few years before acknowledging that his journey here was coming to a close. Those who knew him treasured his inquiring turn of mind and his clear-eyed way of looking at the quirks and vagaries of life. Dick took pleasure in finding inventive, out-of-the-box solutions to every challenge.  He enlisted in the Navy right out of high school, earned a commission to the officer ranks, and retired a full Commander after nearly 30 years of service. During his service, he developed a passion for amateur (‘ham’) radio and has avidly participated as an operator and repair expert ever since. He enjoyed reading, classical music, his work and his family. In his second marriage, he was honored and especially grateful to have found the partner and soulmate he had sought all his life.

Dick is survived by his wife, Shirley Payne Lambert; her two sons, Allen and Jack; daughter, Barbara; and their children and grandchildren, with whom he enjoyed a close, loving relationship. He is also survived by his own three sons, Jeff, Tim and Chris; his daughter, Victoria, and their children and grandchildren, with whom he worked to foster and maintain close relationships.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Virtie and Frank, and by his only brother, Roblin.  The family wishes to thank the nurses and caregivers of Heritage Home Hospice who each took such loving care of Dick in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2019, 1:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Lomas.
