Richard (Dick) Warnes, 84, died Wednesday, August 16, 2017 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Dick was born in Chicago and lived in Indiana, California and then New Mexico where he and his wife lived for 47 years in Los Alamos before moving to Albuquerque. He died in the compassionate care of Mi Casa at La Vida Llena and Hospice of New Mexico. Dick is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children, Bill Warnes, and wife, Roberta, Linda Penaloza and husband, Robert; and his grandchildren, Alexander and Ian. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Annette Rose. Mr. Warnes did his undergraduate work at DePauw University in Indiana and his graduate work at Stanford University. Dick's career spanned 39 1/2 years at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a physicist. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the American Physical Society. He researched shock wave phenomena, dynamic equations of state, constitutive relations and optical instrumentation. Dick was dearly loved and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He will be remembered for his love of music, his gift of humor and his enthusiasm for travel. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Dick was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church at the time of his death and he sang with Matt Greer’s choir for a few years. A Memorial Service will be Monday, September 18, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at the La Vida Llena Chapel, 10501 Lagrima De Oro NE, Albuquerque, NM. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church , 2626 Arizona St. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110, Mi Casa at La Vida Llena or the Alzheimer's Association, 9500 Montgomery Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
