Richard Pipes, 78, passed away in Albuquerque, NM on July 19, 2015. Richard was born in Grand Saline, TX and raised in Amarillo, TX. He is survived by his mother, Mary J. Pipes, of Amarillo, TX; his uncle, Kenneth Seyffert, of Amarillo, TX and his brother and sister-in-law, William Pipes and Carol Pipes, of Crozier, VA. Richard dedicated his life to the art of photography. After graduating from high school, he began his career as a staff photographer for the Amarillo Globe-News. In 1961, he began work as a staff photographer for the Houston Chronicle. While in the Army Reserve, he was called to active duty, where he attended photography school and served as an Army photographer. Richard left the Houston Chronicle and worked in New York as a free-lance photographer for a number of years. He then joined the Albuquerque Journal, where he worked as a staff photographer until his retirement in 2013. Richard has a news photograph in the archives of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and a number of his photographs are available on the internet.
