HINDLEY, Richard Charles A resident of Albuquerque since 1949, died in August of 2013. His parents, Mary McCrory Hindley and Richard Hindley preceded Rick in death. He is survived by his first cousins, Kay Stahl of Cocoa, Florida and Phyllis Carl of Las Vegas Nevada. Rick loved history and journalism. He earned a Bachelor's and Master of Arts Degrees from the University of New Mexico. He served in the New Mexico Army National Guard and began his employment at the Albuquerque Tribune in 1967. He was with the Tribune until he retired in 2008. In 1989 he was named Employee of the Year. As wire editor, he reported the shooting of the pope and president, Three Mile Island, Tiananmen Square and other notable events. Writing and photography were his pastimes. He explored old forts, ghost towns, Indian ruins and other New Mexico places of interest. Many of his articles appeared in the Tribune, New Mexico Magazine and other publications. He collected Acoma and Hopi pottery. Rick was an avid fan of New Mexico University sports, especially the basketball team.
