Richard George Bemis, Sr., age 82, our precious patriarch, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 30, 2015 with his family by his side. Richard was known recently for his presence piloting radio-controlled airplanes in the flying fields around Albuquerque, for his volunteer work in the computer center at Manzano Mesa Multi-Generational Center and for his presence in the stands at Los Altos Park watching softball. Richard was born in Flint, Michigan on February 28 1933, and had an early interest in all things electronic and radio. He graduated from University of Illinois in 1955 NROTC, served as an officer in the US Navy, and settled in Albuquerque with a job at Sandia Corporation as an electronics engineer in 1959. He went on to get an MBA and worked in property management, sales of insurance, securities, electronics and computer equipment, and finally, retired from General Mills in 1998. He is survived by his wife, Georgie; son, Richard Jr. and wife, Robin; daughters, Laura and Suzanna; step-daughters, Sherri and Debbie; and the two stray cats who adopted him, Wilma and Gizmo. A Memorial Celebration will be held Saturday, December 12, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. In memory, contributions may be made to New Mexico PBS www.nmpbs.org, or better yet, take your dad to an Isotopes game or an air show.
