RICHARD LEE AVILARichard Lee Avila 60, a resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away on Saturday June 16, 2012 due to complications from surgery at Presbyterian Hospital. Richard was born on March 24, 1952 in Albuquerque, NM. He graduated from Huntington Park High School in California and obtained his associates degree from Los Angeles Community College. Richard served in the United States Air Force Reserve in 1979 and was stationed at March Air Force Base in California. He also worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad and retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 2005. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 21 years Maria J. Avila, sons Aaron Estrada, wife Laura and Michael Avila; grandchildren Carlos Estrada, Michael Estrada and Jayden Montoya. Siblings Leroy Abila and wife Martha; Bertha Garcia and husband Bob; Robert Avila and wife Bess; Agnes Palacios and husband Alfred; Lorraine Berkos and husband Michael and many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by sister Edith Schmidt, Father Pedro Abila and Mother Rose Avila. Richard was known for his love of sports, music, traveling. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and his strong character. A Rosary for Richard will be recited on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, 3:00 pm at French-University Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday June 21, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 619 Copper Ave. NW. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park with full military honors.
