Richard C. Allen, age 80, passed away November 19, 2013. He was born July 17, 1933 in Detroit, MI. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 - 1957. Following his service, he returned to Murray State University in Kentucky to complete his education, receiving a BS in Math and Physics in 1959. He received his MS in Math from the University of MO in 1960, worked four years for the Martin-Marietta Company in Littleton, CO and then continued his education, receiving his PhD in Mathematics from the University of New Mexico in 1968. He retired from UNM as a Full Professor in 1986 and joined Sandia National Laboratories as a manager of an applied math group. While at Sandia, his passion for education led him to head up a statewide high school program called Adventures in Supercomputing. He retired from Sandia in 1998. Richard enjoyed traveling, photography, working crosswords and playing duplicate bridge. He was a dedicated runner and always made time for running as part of his daily routine. It broke our hearts to lose him but we know he is at peace and in a better place. He brought many happy moments into our lives and left us with many good memories. He will be deeply missed. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Montebello for their care and many kindnesses as well as the Ambercare Hospice team for their support. Cremation has taken place. At his request, there will be no service. Friends who wish may make memorial donations to the Mayo Clinic Foundation/Alzheimer's Disease Research.
