Reyes F. Gurule, age 91, born in Los Lunas, raised in Las Barelas passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, surrounded by his family. Reyes is survived by his wife of 69 years, Cecilia; his children, Larry Gurule (Lorraine), Sandra Varela (Bill), Steve Gurule, Becky LeFaive (Patrick), Sheila Gurule (Gene Johnson) and Deena Gurule. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Angela Gurule, Sarah Rogowski (Mark), Desi Gurule, Racquel Gurule, Felicia Gurule, Sylvia (Kristy) Marquez (David), Jayson Varela, and Gabriel Varela and by 12 great grandchildren. He is survived by two brothers, Henry Gurule and Jackie Gurule (Brenda); and two sisters, Patsy Gurule and Lourdes (Lila) Gurule. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews, whom all loved "Uncle Reyes". Reyes was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Mary Gurule; and five sisters, Martha Garcia, Katy Esquibel, Charlotte (Carla) Aragon, Vangie Tansey and Rosemary Rayner. After serving in the U.S. Army, Reyes was employed by the US Postal Service and retired in January 1987, after 35 years of service. His retirement years were spent dedicating his time to helping many people in need through the St. Vincent de Paul Conference at Queen of Heaven Parish. He was also a devoted member of the Blind Veterans Association at the Veterans Administration. A Rosary, followed by Mass will be held Friday, April 28, 2023, at 9:00 AM, at Sacred Heart Church, 309 Stover Ave SW, Albuquerque, NM. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Conference at 'Online Giving' on the Queen of Heaven Church Website.
