The Rev. Samuel Falbo died on Monday, August 3, 2020 at home in Las Vegas, NV.
Father Falbo was born March 25, 1933 in Carbondale, PA. He was the son of Sam Falbo Sr. and Laura Paone Falbo. He was a well-educated person where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount St. Mary’s University, MD in 1959, and a master’s degree at St. Thomas, Denver, CO in 1960, a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Santa Fe, NM in 1971, as well as a Medical Technologist ASCP certification at the University of New Mexico Medical School in 1971.
Father Falbo attended the seminary at St. Thomas, Denver, where he was ordained in the Archdiocese of New Mexico on May 28, 1960. He celebrated his 60th year in the priesthood. He also taught at St. Pius X High School and served at other Archdiocesan institutions in New Mexico for over 45 years prior to retiring.
During his tenure in Archdiocese of Santa Fe, Father Falbo received several accolades to include, Nomination for the Manufacturing Chemists Association Chemistry Teacher Award, 1973; Recipient of the Catholic Teacher Award for the Archdiocese, 1987; Nomination for an Advanced Placement Recognition Award as an outstanding educator, 1988; Nomination for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching by Council of State Science Supervisors for the NSTA, 1991; and Recipient of the National Presidential Distinguished Teacher Award, 1998.
In July 2006, Father Falbo moved to the Diocese of Las Vegas and continued his service to our Lord and beloved Church and began working as a Parochial Vicar at St. Anthony of Padua. In 2008, he served as an administrator pro tem at St. Andrew’s in Boulder City, then in 2009 returned to St. Anthony of Padua where he faithfully served till his passing. Father Falbo also served as the Chaplain for the Italian Catholic Federation.
Surviving are his sister, Marie Mazzoni and husband, Angelo, Archbald, PA. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Angela Caporali and Rose Carlo.
