Reuben Clifford Chavez, 70, passed away after a long struggle with cancer on Sunday, February 18, 2018 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born on June 20, 1947 in Grants, New Mexico to Carlos and Rita Chavez. In 1969 he married Helen Lucero; wife of 49 years. Together they raised their son Paul as well as Helen's three younger siblings, Anthony, Eileen, and Dion Lucero. Reuben worked and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force after 30 years of service. After retirement he stayed on with the government in Civil Service as a Mechanic Supervisor, "Shop Chief" as his employees affectionately called him. He was the highest achievable enlisted rank in the United States Air Force. Reuben is survived by his wife, Helen; his son, Paul; his daughter, Eileen; his son, Dion; his granddaughter, Jordyn; his grandsons, Vadin and Rayen as well as the many Chavez siblings and family members. A visitation will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 at FRENCH - Rio Rancho from 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. A Rosary will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Mass at 12:00 p.m., followed by Burial at 3:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
