Renee Bowen, "Bomma" to her family, a long-time resident of Tucumcari, NM, died at age 99 on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at the Beehive Homes in Albuquerque surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen W. "Pat" Bowen; and three brothers. She is survived by her daughters, Trish Langley and husband Robert and Linda McMurray and husband Pat; brother, Steve Nutt and wife Ruth of Santa Fe, NM; four grandchildren, Karen Browning and husband Kurt, Kurston McMurray and wife Paige, Stephanie Kucinski and husband Bryan, and Warren Langley and wife Michelle; six great-granddaughters and six great-grandsons; and many other relatives and friends.
Renee was born on April 6, 1917 in Fayette, MO to Wallace and Mary Nutt and graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1935. She was a secretary to the Corps of Engineers during the development of Conchas Dam and attended Business School in California. Upon returning to Tucumcari, she was married to Pat "Boppa" for 72 years.
Renee will be remembered for her love and talent for the Arts and the sharing of this gift with her community and family. She loved to sing and enjoyed many choirs in her early years, but found her passion in china painting, acrylic and watercolors. She was supportive of the organization "Creation," a juried art show to Quay County and C.R.A.F.T. which marketed Quay County arts and crafts. She was a member of the Porcelain Arts Club in Albuquerque. She had a special gift for creative cooking.
Renee was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who spent her life caring for her family and the community with whom she lived. She was a member of the Civic Club La Esperanza in Tucumcari and a member of PEO Chapter D for over 50 years. She loved playing bridge with her friends and will be missed by all who knew her. Renee was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tucumcari.
Services will be held Saturday, August 13, 2016, 2:00 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church in Tucumcari. Interment will follow at Tucumcari Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Dunn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to DLD Sycamore School, a private non-profit school serving students with learning disabilities, at 8600 Academy Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111 or a charity of your choice.
