Regis H Cassidy, age 65, a resident of Albuquerque since 2001, left this world for his final home with God on Tuesday, October 2015 after a very long battle with multiple myeloma. He displayed remarkable determination and strength to carry on with all he loved to do. The family would like to give special thanks to doctors Mitchell Binder, M. Houman Fekrazad, Dulcinea Quintana, and his friend and nurse of the majority of his years battling cancer, Rose Reese. If not for their exceptional care and compassion, we believe this journey would have ended years ago.
After graduating from the University of Montana in Missoula, where he and Chris spent their first years of marriage, he worked briefly for the BLM and then spent 30 years working for the U.S. Forest Service. That career took the family to several beautiful locals in Arizona and New Mexico that they've enjoyed exploring very much.
He was a lover of the outdoors, enjoying gardening, biking, long-distance running, hiking in the mountains, taking trips and camping with his family, and doing yardwork. In their 10 years of living in Kanab, Utah, he especially loved being with his family on Lake Powell out on their boat, and camping on the beach. He also enjoyed woodworking, doing car maintenance for the family, attending arts and crafts fairs, browsing art galleries, and doing home improvement projects. In his later years, he took up Tai Chi. Most of all, he loved his family, which includes his wife Chris of 43 years, children Trinity Byrne and husband, David of Oklahoma, and son Regis Friend-Cassidy and wife Jessica of Albuquerque. The family includes six grandchildren, who brought him much joy. They include Kiera, Ryan and Leah Byrne, and Chloe, Paige, and Alexis Friend-Cassidy.
Regis was preceded in death by his parents Regis Cassidy, Sr. and Juanita DeWitt, step-father Gene DeWitt, and brother Glen Cassidy.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at FRENCH-Lomas, with a reception to follow. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the International Myeloma Foundation, www.myeloma.org.
