Rebecca Lee White

August 3, 1939 — February 3, 2025

Rebecca “Becky” White passed peaceably away on Monday, February 3rd after a brief care session with hospice while a resident at Oakdale Heights in Redding.

She was born on August 3, 1939, in Roswell, New Mexico to Fred Carman and Jessie Lawhorn. She met Ron in early 1954 while living in Augusta, Kansas and dated briefly. In August 1957 Ron was drafted into the Army and Becky went off to college. In May 1960 while visiting Augusta, Kansas Ron reconnected with Becky and after a brief courtship they married on December 17, 1960, who survives. her. She is also survived by her son, Christopher (Susan); granddaughter, Caroline Rebecca; sister, Beth Reeves; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She attended Kansas University Medical School and was a licensed RN. She enjoyed working as a staff nurse at hospitals in northern Virginia and Albuquerque and spent one year as a school nurse in California.

Soon after her marriage, her husband was transferred to Korea for 1 year and thus began a 20-year Army career with assignments in California, Georgia, Kansas, the Pentagon, Germany, Belgium, and Vietnam. While stationed in Belgium, Becky traveled around Europe, often alone or with other military wives when Ron was unable to get time off from his military duty. She became quite the skilled traveler. She learned very quickly that the hardest job in the military is the military wife. And she became very good at it.

Retiring from the Army did not stop our moving. We moved from Springfield, Virginia to Roswell, New Mexico then to Albuquerque then to Irvine, California and finally Redding, California. After retiring from the Army, Ron had converted his military admin training to managing law firms.

In 1993 Becky underwent several embolization procedures in her brain to fix a bleeding issue. All of the bleeders, but one very small one was closed. It was decided due to its size and location to monitor it for change and deal with it then. On March 30, 2023, she suffered a stroke and that triggered her medical decline.

Services will be held Monday, February 17, 2025, 11:00 a.m., at FRENCH – University, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UCLA Neuroscience Foundation.
