Raymond Paul "Skip" Theiler Jr, 87, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, entered eternal rest on the evening of April 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 12, 1937, in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, Skip was the eldest of six children born to Gladys Brady and Raymond Theiler Sr. As a child, he earned the nickname "Skip" because he was always skipping from place to place, full of energy and curiosity. He later moved to Belen, New Mexico in the 1950s, where he would begin the next chapter of his life in New Mexico.
A proud and honorable veteran, Skip served in the U.S. Air Force with courage and commitment. During his time in Iwo Jima, he worked in meteorology-an experience that ignited a lifelong passion. After his military service, he built a distinguished career with the National Weather Service, where he became a respected expert in his field. Upon retiring, he left behind a legacy marked by dedication, professionalism, and deep knowledge.
Skip had a deep love of history, especially the rich stories of the American Southwest. He was rarely seen without a book in hand, and his shelves overflowed with history books, each one well-loved and read more than once. Photography was another lifelong passion-he had a gift for finding stillness and beauty in the New Mexico landscape, capturing moments that others might pass by.
He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Gladys, brothers, Jerry Theiler, and Jim Theiler. He is survived by his loving children: Etta (Mike) Sisneros, Janelle (Gregory) Nelson, and James (Tanya) Theiler; his siblings: Mike Theiler, Marilyn (Frank) Feldman, Nancy (Jim) Summit. Skip's legacy lives on in his cherished grandchildren: Graham Sisneros, Madeline Nelson, Mason (Rebecca) Sisneros, Morgan Nelson, Evan Sisneros, and his great-grandchildren, Lola and Winston Sisneros.
Gentle and wise, Skip had a quiet way of making those around him feel seen and understood. His sharp wit, his calm spirit, and his deep kindness will be missed more than words can express. He found joy in the simple things-listening to his radio each day, a good conversation, the comfort of family near.
A memorial service will be held on May 8th at 10 a.m. at FRENCH - Wyoming. A reception will follow. Friends and family are invited to attend and honor a life well lived.
