Dr. Raymond Marchi, 83, beloved Husband and Father, was taken suddenly on Thursday, March 4, 2021. Ray was born Saturday, March 27, 1937 in San Francisco, CA, to Paul and Frances Marchi. He grew up in Daly City and met Luise Roesner in college. After graduating from the University of California at Berkley they married in 1959. They moved to Lafayette, IN to attend Purdue University and Ray earned a PhD in Physical Chemistry. They had 3 children before settling in Salinas, CA.
In 1976 Ray married Mary Lynn Carroll. After the children were grown and out of the house, they moved to New Mexico where they developed a love of Native American and Southwestern art and history and established their dream horse ranch in Mora, NM. The ranch was the perfect setting to raise all of their horses, dogs, cats, llamas and birds.
Ray was always trying a new sport or activity that allowed him to enjoy all things outdoors. He was devoted to tennis, snow skiing, hiking, mountain climbing, hang gliding (briefly), bike riding, and running 10Ks, marathons and even a 50-mile race. Ray loved horse camping and riding with Lynn and their dogs all around New Mexico and the southwestern states. He even ventured into endurance horse racing.
Ray is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Lynn Marchi; three children, Alane (Ron) Ratigan, Ronald (Julia) Marchi, and Robert (Heidi) Marchi; six grandchildren, Chris and Whitney Ratigan, Courtney and Camryn Marchi, and Ben and Fynn Marchi; and three siblings, Doreen (Robert) Marchi-Crawford, Gayle (Craig) Marchi-McClelland, and Robert Marchi.
A Private Memorial Service for immediate family will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2021. A recoding of the service will be made available on-line. The family will arrange a Celebration of Raymond's Life in California later in 2021.
