Raymond "Ray" Lucero

LUCERO, RAYMOND "RAY" Passed away on August 15th, 2013 at the age of 79, in the company of his beloved wife with prayers surrounding him. Ray spent his life in the Barelas community where he remained in the home he was born in and then raised a family in. Ray lived a full life, working many years as a Master Welder. After his naval military service, he went on to have a long -standing career as a welder with PNM where he eventually retired. Although he retired from PNM, he continued to do welding work from his home where he made wrought iron doors, fences, windows and many more unique projects for family, friends and several others throughout the Albuquerque area. Ray took great pride in his work. His work was his passion, his own style and expressed his creativity. He continued to work unyieldingly up to a few weeks before his passing. Ray touched many lives, not only through his wrought iron works, but also as a devoted Usher at Sacred Heart Church. When Ray was not in church on Sundays or working on wrought iron, he was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, chasing them to bestow prickly kisses that drove the kids insane. Ray enjoyed talking and joking with friends and family and would frequently give them amusing nicknames. As a man of God, Ray loved his family and will be forever loved and remembered. Ray is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Mary Lucero; one daughter, RoseAnna Ruiz; sons, Michael and Chuck Lucero; and daughter-in-law Cathy A. Gallegos-Lucero; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and Ray has 5 living sisters. Pallbearers will be Charlie Lucero, Christian A. Lucero, Jaun Ruiz-Gonzalez, Kenny Everett, Ruben Sanchez and Ron Vallejos. Rosary will be held Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 7 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 4th street and Stover downtown. Burial mass will be Monday, August 19, 2013, at 12:30 p.m., at Sacred Heart Church. Funeral will follow, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. FRENCH - University 1111 University Blvd NE 505-843-6333
