Raymond L. Garcia, 73, met his heavenly Father on February 11, 2016, after a fearless battle with recent illness. His devotion to God and to his family firmly supported him in his fight and provided him with peace and acceptance in his final days.
A lifelong Albuquerque, NM resident, Ray was born to the late Ernest and Angela Garcia on May 29, 1942. He graduated from Saint Mary's High School in 1960, attended the University of New Mexico, and began his sales career with Zork Hardware Company of El Paso, TX. In 1980, he started a wholesale distribution company, Mountain States Sporting Goods, which he operated for 25 years, and later worked for Big Rock Sports. He was a devout Catholic and avid outdoorsman. He hunted regularly, but fishing was his passion. Ray is most remembered for his sense of humor, his compassion and philanthropy, and his loyalty.
Among many other friends and relatives, Ray is survived by his wife, Christine; son, Raymond L. Garcia, II; daughter, Crystal Blaha, her husband Robert; and grandchildren, Bella, Boss and Bliss all of Denver, CO; daughter, Sheryl Garcia of Albuquerque; sister, Christine Coyle and her husband ,Tom of Baltimore, MD; and sister-in-law, Patricia Martinez of Santa Monica, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Angela Garcia and brother, Michael Garcia.
A Holy Rosary will commence at 9:00 a.m., February 16, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 619 Copper Ave NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102 followed by a Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers are Larry Perea, Maurice Greigo, Ernest Montoya, Ron Peterson, Robert Blaha and Jason Seubert.
