Ray McGowan

Ray McGowan, 72, beloved husband, was called to his eternal resting place on March 21, 2017. He entered this world on May 5, 1944, in Wichita Falls, TX, born to Dee and Gladys McGowan. He is survived by wife, Carnella McGowan, whom he affectionately called "Kid"; daughter, Alesia Bell; sons, Eugene Bell and James Bell; sister, Eolis Jean, and brother in law, L. T. Duffey; sisters-in-law, Alva Lois McGowan and Alice Fay McGowan; and a host of nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father, Dee McGowan; mother, Gladys Loving McGowan; brothers, Donnell McGowan, Sr., Dee McGowan, Jr., and Ernest McGowan; and sister, Laura McDaniel.

Ray earned teaching certificates in the states of Missouri and Texas. He served as a highly respected and decorated middle and high school biology teacher and high school head coach (football, basketball, and track) in Missouri and Texas for over forty years. During this time, he received a plethora of teaching awards as well as numerous athletic championships and awards. Ray retired from the school system in 2010. Ray and Carnella moved to Albuquerque, NM in 2014 to be closer to family members. Ray was a faithful member of St. James United Methodist Church in Kansas City, MO and Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Albuquerque. Ray was also a respected member of the Albuquerque community and was loved by many friends, neighbors and church family.

Services will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 8550 Saul Bell Rd. NW. The viewing will take place prior to the service, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery.
