Ray A. Histia, 88, a life-long resident of Pueblo of Acoma, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014 in Denver, CO. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Harriet Histia; daughters, Lois Waconda and husband, Alvino, Jacqueline Bakker and husband, Hendrik, and Alvira Garcia and husband, Bernard; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Ray was preceded in death by his daughter, Shirley; and son, B. Gregory. Ray served as Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Treasurer for the Pueblo of Acoma. His greatest accomplishment during his tenure as Governor was the acquisition of the Red Lake Ranch for the Acoma People. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 43 years and served in the US Navy during WWII. Ray served as a New Mexico Livestock Inspector and enjoyed raising his own cattle. He loved his animals and enjoyed farming. Rosary will be recited at the family home on Friday, January 10, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Acomita. Interment will follow at Mount of Peace Cemetery in McCartys, NM.
