Ray Gilbert Helmich, 79, of Albuquerque, NM, died suddenly on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Presbyterian Rust Medical Center, Rio Rancho, NM.
Ray was born March 12, 1936 in Highland, IL. He retired from Caterpillar in Joliet, IL after more than 35 years with the company. He was an involved member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Rio Rancho, NM, a long-time resident of Minooka, IL, and a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Joliet, IL. Ray was a proud Veteran of the US Army, an avid woodworker, and a devoted grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Irwin Helmich (1972) and Estelle Helmich, nee Niebruegge, (2003); his wife, Dagmar Helmich, nee Kirchner, (2009), whom he married on March 21, 1964; and his brother, Earl Helmich (1995).
Surviving are his three sons, Dennis (Georgia) Helmich of Albuquerque, NM, Kevin (Sarah) Helmich of Ann Arbor, MI and Brian Helmich of San Diego, CA; five grandchildren; brothers Kenneth Helmich of Levittown, PA, Clyde Helmich of Columbia, IL; sisters Elaine Bruns, of Granite City, IL and Virginia Guse of St. Louis, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, 305 Unser Blvd NE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124.
