Our beloved mother of 90 years of age, Raquel A. Viera, born in La Mesa, NM, went home to be with the Lord on September 29, 2015 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
She was a longtime resident of Albuquerque, having lived previously in Roswell, and in Farmington. Her passion was her family, music, cooking and serving God. She was a Sunday school teacher, a church pianist, and also taught others to play the piano. She worked for approximately 20 years as a pre-school teacher at Sunset Mesa School of Albuquerque.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dario and Estefana Armendariz; a brother, Samuel Armendariz; and sister, Celia Corona. She is survived by sister, Noemi Fierro, of Bakersfield, CA; brothers, Dario Armendariz of Bakersfield, CA and David Armendariz of Elk Grove, CA. Raquel and her husband, Rev. AndrAC.s B. Viera, were married in 1946 in El Paso, TX. She is survived by her husband, AndrAC.s; and children, Paul A. Viera and wife Eloise of Portland, TN, Rodolfo E. Viera, of Aurora, CO, Andrew Viera and wife Tina, of Albuquerque, George H. Viera and wife Robin, of Cedar Grove, NM, daughter Alice Montoya and husband Eliseo of Albuquerque, and Ruben A. Viera, of Albuquerque. She has nine grandchildren, Joseph Viera, Jeremy Viera, Jennifer Viera, Audrey Viera, Christopher Viera, Jason Viera, Nathan Viera, Daniel Montoya and Joshua Montoya; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 5, 2015. Public viewing begins at 9:00 a.m. and service starts at 10:00 a.m. at First Spanish Baptist Church, 812 Fruit Ave. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Cemetery, 924 Menaul Blvd NE.
