Randall Nim Evatt

November 25, 1941 — October 16, 2021

R. Nim Evatt, age 79, beloved husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend passed away at home in Corrales, New Mexico, surrounded by family on Saturday, October 16, 2021, after a four-year battle with cancer. Nim was a native New Mexican, born in Hatch and raised in Silver City. His career took him around the world, but he eventually came home after retiring in 2011.
From humble beginnings, Nim faced adversity and learned at an early age that with hard work, passion, and perseverance he could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. And so, he did...

Nim got his first taste of success in competitive sports when his little league team became state champs. Later, he would become men's individual tennis club champion at Blossom Hill in Los Gatos, CA, as well as several other East and West coast clubs. One of his proudest moments was winning a men's open doubles tournament with his son Philip, at fifty years old! He was fiercely competitive in all aspects of work and play, but always put honor and integrity above winning.

Nim became the first in his family to graduate from college, with a degree in Mathematics and Economics from New Mexico Western University in 1965. He earned his MS in Nuclear Engineering from Purdue University in 1968, and was recruited by General Electric where, he spent 17 years, ultimately serving as General Manager for installation and service engineering of Power Systems throughout Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

After leaving GE, Nim applied his leadership, general management, and international business development skills to become a highly respected CEO of high-growth technology companies in the Nuclear and Aerospace industries in Philadelphia and Moorestown, NJ. Upon retiring to New Mexico with his wife and business partner; he became deeply committed to the local startup community, investing in, and advising numerous local businesses and organizations.

Nim's professional accomplishments were matched equally by his deep commitment to family and life-long friends. He was passionate in his appreciation of beauty- music, art, culture, history, sports, fast cars, food, and wine. He loved unconditionally and shared generously.

Nim is survived by his wife, Susan (her children, Brad and Halley Yankanich); daughter, Adrienne (her husband, Steven and their daughters, Piper, Hadley, and Olive Zay); son, Philip (wife, Kimberly and their sons, Jack, and Levi Evatt); grandson, Noah Ayon and his mother, Gina Ayon; and son, Tom Koel (wife, Alice and their families).

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to your local food pantry or homeless shelter.
