Ramona Gene passed away in her sleep on October 4, 2022, at the Casa de Rosa Assisted Living Center in Corales, she was 91 years old. Gene was born on July 10, 1931, in Amarillo, Texas and moved to New Mexico with her family as a young woman.
She married Donald Allen Evans in 1946 and their family grew to include two boys and two girls. Later in her life Gene lived in Washington state and Oregon, where she lived for several years with her sister, Jackie. She worked as an accountant and controller and was a professional dog show handler.
After her time in the Northwest, Gene moved back to New Mexico. She lived in Regina, and then Albuquerque for the rest of her life.
In her later years, for as long as she was able, Grandma Gene enthusiastically used e-mail to keep in touch with her family and to keep her extended family aware of major events in each other's lives. For many years, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren could also count on receiving a birthday gift of a homemade bookmark with a Psalm or Proverb written on it.
She was preceded in death by two of her siblings; her son Michael Evans; and a grandson, Travis Karns. She is survived by her brother Derryl Harris and sister Jackie Trickel; son D.A. Evans; daughters, Patricia Aston, and Jacqueline Bickford; 14 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. (Mike = 3 children, 6 grandchildren; D.A. = 5 children, 11 grandchildren; Pat = 3 children, 6 grandchildren; Jackie = 3 children, 8 grandchildren).
