Rachel E Chavez

Rachel E. Chavez, age 94, went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, September 23, 2018. Rachel was the daughter of Salomon P. and Nemecia P. Chavez and was born in Albuquerque on October 7, 1923. She is survived by her sister, Priscilla Griego; her nephews, Salomon P. Chavez and wife, Eve, Steven Chavez and wife, Gina, Gary K. Martin and wife, Kari, and Karl A. Martin and wife, Anna; and nieces, Charlene Gonzales and husband, Robert, Gina Chavez, and Liz King and husband, Ron; and several great and great-great nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Salomon P. Chavez; and sister, Olivia C. Martin.

After graduating from Albuquerque High School in 1942 she worked at a variety of administrative type jobs before getting hired by the Department of Treasury, Internal Revenue Service. She had a successful and rewarding career with the Federal Government before retiring in April 1985. Rachel cared for her mom, Nemecia, until she passed away in 1988. Rachel loved to spend time in her garden, bake, cook, and decorate her home for all occasions.

There are many wonderful memories of spending Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter in her home with the smells of fresh baked goodies and green chili, posole, tamales, and tortillas throughout the house. Rachel is a kind, loving, patient, and generous person with a soft heart. Her Church, El Buen Samaritano Iglesia Metodista Unida, was very important to Rachel. She had many friends and relatives and was active in a variety of its missions and outreach programs. She loves her family, friends, her Bible, Church, and most importantly her God and Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 28, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at El Buen Samaritano United Methodist Church, 700 Granite Ave NE in Albuquerque.
