Presciliano's surviving siblings include Carmel Mares, Dulcen Serrano and Bobby Mares. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Phillip Mares and Esteban Mares; as well as his sisters, Aurelia Fajardo and Nicolasa Romero.
Presciliano was a native New Mexican born in Corona, NM of parents Juan de Dios Mares and Estafanita Dimas Mares. His father was a foreman for the Southern Pacific railroad, which meant that there was early travel throughout New Mexico, and Presciliano spent his early years not only in Corona but also in Montoya, NM before settling most of his teenage years in Pastura, NM. He was well known for not only his intellectual prowess but his athletic abilities and was a multisport letterman for Santa Rosa High School and was affectionately given the nickname of Champion (Campeon) by his family. Despite his modest upbringing he was able to be the first in his family to graduate from college graduating from Texas Western University with a degree in Business Administration. His academic career was accomplished through his hard work and the aid of the U.S. government's GI bill program having spent several years in the Army-Air Force during WWII.
He eventually moved back with his wife and children to Albuquerque where he was area manager for the Multigraphics division of Addressograph Multigraph Corporation. He was a highly successful salesman and leader and also mentored many in his field. After retirement, he ran the print shop for the New Mexico Activities Association for several years before permanent retirement. Presciliano was also a dedicated, life-long member of the Elks Club.
He was a most devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor who will be sorely missed by his friends and family.
