Phyllis was born November 10, 1937 in Hatch, NM to parents, Jeff and Deiry Hooker. She grew up in Hatch then moved to Albuquerque in the 9th grade where she attended Lincoln Junior High School, then Albuquerque High School where she graduated. While studying at the University of New Mexico she married Fred Luthy in 1956.
Throughout Phyllis’s life she touched so many people in wonderful and memorable ways. With all her heart she raised three handsome sons and later her two granddaughters, Amber and Ashley. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and loyal friend. Everyone lucky enough to have met her has been touched by her smile, her grace and charm. She will be remembered forever for her endless kindness, stunning beauty and amazing stories.
Her love for golf might have only been surpassed by her love for chile. Some called her the enchilada queen and if you ever tried her food you would know why. She was spicy just like everything she made. Great at golfing, she played with professionals and celebrities alike, but most of all she enjoyed playing with her husband, Fred. Phyllis had and eye for style and never missed a beat with her fashion. She never hesitated to tell you that something didn’t match. She really did it all, anything from the Two Step to the Twist, Phyllis had endless dance moves and loved music. She always believed that dancing was not only easy but necessary.
Phyllis loved her gorgeous home in the North Valley and condo in Laguna Beach, both of which she designed and decorated. She traveled all over the world with Fred and family, seeing the sited in the US, touring most of Europe, seeking the thrills in South Africa, and loving the beauty of Australia and New Zealand. Some of her favorite trips were the wild ones with Fred down to Mexico with three sons and boat in tow. Her adventures were as diverse and unique as the places she went and the people she came across.
A wonderful woman of honesty and character, Phyllis gave generously her wisdom, wit, joy, and love. She will be missed forever by all friends and family and by all whom share her stories.
Her memorial service will be on Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Albuquerque Country Club, 601 Laguna Blvd SW.
