Phyllis Ballow DeFeo passed away June 20, 2018 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born November 30, 1933 in Clovis, NM to John W. Ballow, Jr. and Irene Spade Ballow. The family moved to Santa Fe in 1935 and to Los Alamos in 1948. She graduated high school in Los Alamos, continued to Stephen’s College and graduated in 1953. Phyllis married Richard J. DeFeo in Columbia, MO in June of 1953. She and her husband lived in Augsburg, Germany for two years, Columbia, MO for three years and Baton Rouge, LA until moving to Placitas, NM in 2005.
She is survived by her husband, Richard DeFeo; daughter, Debra de Graauw and husband, John de Graauw of Albuquerque; son, John DeFeo and wife, Leslie of Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren, Kevin, Jennifer, and John Andrew de Graauw (wife, Jennifer Mahoney de Graauw); and great-grandchildren, Anna, Madeleine, Emily, and Charlotte.
Phyllis’ interests in addition to her family were gardening and historical research. She co-authored the book, “Louisiana: 1820 Life and Times.”
Memorial Services will be held Friday, June 29, 2018, 10:00 a.m., at FRENCH – Wyoming. We welcome all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society or American Red Cross.
