Philip James Ulanowicz

Philip (Phil) James Ulanowicz, age 70, died on July 24, 2015 at his home in Albuquerque, NM. He was born in Detroit, MI, in 1945 and was adopted by Genevieve and Carl Ulanowicz in 1946 of Grand Rapids, MI. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Rodriguez-Ulanowicz of Albuquerque; daughter, Janel and spouse, Eric Shisler; grandchildren, Anastacia and Annarissa; daughter, Charlotte LaBadie and spouse, Amos Overson; grandchildren, Ariah, Angel, and AJ; sister, Lois Servaas of MI; niece, Jeannie Servaas and son, Luke of FL; Godmother, Mary Safranski of MI; and numerous other loving relatives and friends. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Genevieve and Carl Ulanowicz. Phil attended St. Isidore's Grade School, Catholic Central High School, and Central Michigan University. He served as a Peace Corp volunteer in the Philippines in the late 60's. He spent 5 years in the Saginaw Township (MI) working for the community schools. He moved to New Mexico in the mid 70's to attend graduate school at the University of New Mexico where he earned a Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling. Phil retired from the City of Albuquerque, Bernalillo County Detention Center after 25 years of public service. Phil was a unique soul. He believed in the greater good of mankind. He was compassionate, patient, loving, and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed music, sports, and dining out with friends and family. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 31, 2015, 10:00 a.m., at FRENCH-University. A reception will follow at the Old Town Reception Center.
