Philip Wolfe Roberts

Philip W. Roberts, 89, passed away July 10, 2018, at his home in Albuquerque, NM. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends, and remembered fondly for his humor, kindness, and positivity.

He was born in Clayton, NM in 1929, and moved to Las Vegas, NM, to attend college at New Mexico Highlands University. While in college, he met his wife, Betty, whom he married in 1950.

He moved to Roswell, NM in 1957, where he was a band director for two years before he went into school administration. He opened Monterrey Elementary School, and was also principal of Sierra Middle School, Military Heights Elementary, and Valley View Elementary. He retired in 1987.

He served on the Roswell City Council for 14 years, three of those years as Mayor Pro Tem. He was also active in Kiwanis, in which he served as District Lt. Governor.

After living in Roswell for 38 years, he and Betty moved to Tucson, Arizona, where they spent 21 years. They returned to live in New Mexico in late 2016.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Roberts; his son, Philip Dee Roberts; his daughter, Tamye Roberts Smith; six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
