Perry was born in Dalhart, TX in 1937 and died January 23, 2016. His family moved to Kansas, Nebraska and made their home in the Texas Panhandle of Pampa, TX. Perry graduated from Pampa High School in 1956.

After graduation and basic training in Biloxi, MI, Perry was stationed for four years at the Radar Base at Continental Divide in the 769th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron.

He married a young Gallup girl, Preciliana (Prissy) Martinez, made Gallup his home, which he loved and never moved back to Texas. He was happily married for 57 years and blessed with five beautiful daughters.

Perry and his father-in-law, John B. Martinez, built Perry and Prissy's first home. He was also the maintenance man for the whole family; whether it was a washer or dryer that needed repair or someone's car. He changed out motors, transmissions, and brakes and always had tools handy to fix everything. He taught his daughters to always be prepared.

For 45 years, Perry worked for Bureau of Indian Affairs. He worked as an Engineering Technician and Boiler Inspector. His career took him and his family to Lake Valley, NM, Low Mountain, Chinle and Many Farms, AZ.

Perry left Many Farms to attend college at Northern Arizona University where he majored in Mechanical Engineering. In later years when his daughters complained about having a hard time in college he said, "I went to school while raising a family of five daughters." All five daughters graduated from college.

Perry took an early retirement, retiring to Cortez, Colorado where he and his wife owned 10 acres and a beautiful home. After two years he said, "Retirement is for the birds." He was rehired by the BIA and worked 10 more years retiring on 08-08-08.

Perry will be remembered as a devoted husband, a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather instilling in his family his legacy of integrity, honesty and hard work. He shared his love of the outdoors with his grandkids, and his great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Alzie Arlington Schanefelt; and his mom, Lucy Elizabeth Schanefelt.

He is survived by his sister, Lucy Honig from Seward, Nebraska; and his brother, retired Colonel Chaplain Porter Brooks from Vienna, Virginia.
