Peggy Paler

Paler, Peggy Louise D'Arcy, EdD,Age 75 went to be with the Lord on August 4, 2012. She was born November 23, 1936 in Wink, Texas. Peggy grew up in Albuquerque and graduated from Highland High School in 1955. After meeting her future husband, Abraham D. Paler, at Inlow Youth Camp where he was a student missionary, from the Philippines, they married on May 27th, 1955. She went to Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas where she received her BS degree in Education and began teaching first grade at Jayton, Texas. They moved to Albuquerque where her husband began his doctorate studies and she taught first grade at Griegos Elementary School. When Abraham received his Doctor of Education degree, they moved to Guam where he was a professor at the University and she taught kindergarten through second grade for the next 30 years. While in Guam, Peggy went to the University of Guam and received her Master of Education degree and served as Associate Professor at the University of Guam as well as The College of St. Joseph at Massin, Philippines. Later she entered the Doctorate program at the University of Southern California and received her Doctorate of Education degree in 1982. After the death of Abraham, she returned to the states where she began teaching at the university level, first at Sul Ross State University at Alpine, Texas and later at her alma mater, Howard Payne University, at Brownwood, Texas. In 1997 she went to Colonia, Yap, Micronesia as a consultant to develop the Head Start program, where she wrote the curriculum to train the teachers and resided until 2004. She is listed in the Who's Who in American Education. Since returning to Albuquerque she lived with a special friend Maxine Turpen and at the Albuquerque Grand Senior living. She was a Past Noble Grand of Triple Link Rebekah lodge of the IOOF in Albuquerque and also a member of the Rebekah Assembly of New Mexico, where she served as a trustee on the Bettye Miller Scholarship Board and a past advisor of Arkisgo Theta Rho Girls' Club in Albuquerque. She is survived by her sisters, Sandi McWatters and Barbara Corfield (Boyd) of Albuquerque; niece, Sherri Villegas (Joe) of Rio Rancho; nephews, Doug McWatters (Lorrie), Ken Corfield, (Crystal) of Albuquerque and Bob Corfield (Jen) of Boise, Idaho; two great-nephews; nine great-nieces; two great-great nephews, five great-great nieces and a host of world-wide friends. She is preceded in her death by her parents, T. Earl and Mabel D' Arcy; her husband, Abraham Paler and her nephew, Sean Villegas. A Memorial service will be held Friday August 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at French-University location. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bettye Miller Memorial Scholarship Fund of the Rebekah Assembly of NM in care of D'Elva Emert, 2113 Smith Lane, Farmington, NM 87401, or the charity of your choice.
