Peggy Lucile DeOliviera Gafford was born on April 29, 1927 in Las Vegas New Mexico. She grew up in Fort Sumner, New Mexico with her parents, Mary Lucile and Rhea DeOliviera, and her sisters and brother, Mary Ann, Etta, and Ralph. Peggy is survived by Mary Ann and Ralph; and daughter, Geri Georg and her family, Denny and their son, Brenden.
After studying both voice and education, Peggy graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1949. She married William Rogers Gafford on May 29, 1949, in Tucumcari, New Mexico. They lived in Austin, Texas and then in Albuquerque, New Mexico where Bill was a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of New Mexico. Peggy pursued her many interests, including gardening and art, focusing on clay santos and angels, and on watercolors. She continued her enjoyment of music and reading all her life. She and Bill were active members in their parish community at the Cathedral of St. John in Albuquerque. After Bill died, Peggy continued to enjoy her many friends in Albuquerque and to discover many new friends at La Vida Llena where she has lived since 2010.
