Pearl Targhetta

October 2, 1921 — September 24, 2012

Age 90, longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at her home on September 24, 2012. She was the only child of Carman (Harry) and Martha Belmonte and was born in Aurora, Illinois on October 2, 1921. After completing High School in Aurora, Genevieve worked as a seamstress and model at a corset factory. After moving to Albuquerque with her family in the 1940's, she worked as a Bookkeeper for a local firm and soon married Johnny Joseph Targhetta. Genevieve's love of sewing led to a demand for her talents as a seamstress. She enjoyed crafts, working picture puzzles, playing bingo and gardening. She was a member of the National Honor Society and The Elks Ladies BPOE of Albuquerque Lodge 461. She served as an Ambassador at Atria Vista Del Rio Retirement Community, where she lived for 15 years. She assisted new residents in feeling welcome at their new home, was an active participant in the Atria Vista Del Rio Retirement Community Craft Fairs, Activities Department projects and she loved dancing and listening to beautiful musical performances. Genevieve was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She is survived by her two daughters: Judith Lynn King and husband, John Sipe King; and Susan Marie Mathias, husband D. Sterling Mathias. Genevieve had four grandchildren: Stephen Michael King and wife Elizabeth; Christina Kay McRae and husband, Jim; Michael Robert Mathias; and Matthew Paul Mathias and wife, Courtney. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to all of her wonderful caregivers and staff from The Retreat at Home, who have been with her for several years, and to Hospice De La Luz for their care and support. Visitation will be on Friday, September 28, 2012 from 6:00p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at French - University. Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at French - University. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, 300 Ave. S.E., Albuquerque, New Mexico 87102-3599 or The Salvation Army, 501 Broadway Blvd. S.E. Albuquerque, New Mexico 87102.
