Pauline Samoska, age 91, deeply loved sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 24, 2018. She entered heaven to join her family who loved her very much. She was born to Eva and George Samoska on August 14, 1926 in East St. Louis, IL. She was a devout Catholic and attended services daily. After graduation from St. Teresa’s Academy, she entered St. John’s School of Nursing (St. Louis University) and received her degree in 1947. She worked for Public Health in East St. Louis for several years, then joined the U.S. Department of State and later earned her Nurse Practitioner degree. While with the State Department she traveled to many countries and South America. Pauline was very kind and always helping others and supporting the needy. While in Ecuador she helped establish a children’s clinic and was awarded a Papal Award.
She is survived by her sister, Bernice Sackett and husband, Norman, their children, Mark and Debbie; and very good friend, Walt Luecke; plus numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eva and George; her sister, Ann; and brothers, George Jr., Walter and Albert.
A reception will be held on Friday, July 6, 2018 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., at FRENCH – University. The rosary will be recited on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at 9:00 a.m., with Mass to follow at 10:00 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 619 Copper Ave NW. Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
