Our mother, Pauline Gertrude Hornkohl (Polly) age 93, passed over on a beautiful Sunday morning 5/26/13 surrounded by her loving family. She was a resident of New Britain, Connecticut, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Boynton Beach, Florida. Wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Robert Hornkohl and her son Thomas Hornkohl. We know they were waiting for her on the other side. She is survived by her children Peggy Hornkohl Brady, Robert Hornkohl, Richard Hornkohl, Sally Hornkohl Bell, James Hornkohl, John Hornkohl and Carrie Hornkohl. She was grandmother to Sheri, Ronda, Dana, Ian, Kara, K.C., Kirsten, Arianna, Miranda, Mitchell, Artie, B.J., and Lacey. She was great grandmother to Jahshua, Sophia, Viola, Nicole, Cory and Cassandra and great-great grandmother to Corey Joshua.Pauline graduated as an R.N. from New Britain General Hospital in September of 1941 and began a long career of bringing other people's newborn babies into the world. She married her best friend Bob on September 26, 1942 and began bringing eight of her own babies into the world. Mom was an ardent and proud supporter of her kids, an accomplished poet, a great dancer, an eager traveler (she put the travel bug in all of us,) a generous giver, and a believing Christian. A private family memorial was held on May 30, 2013 to send her off with much love and many tears. We are sure Dad was with her watching and saying, "You raised these crackpot kids, Pauline." Her remains will be taken home to Rosehill Cemetery in Connecticut to be placed next to her husband Robert and her son Tom. Happy Trails, Mom. We love you!Mom was a generous donator, so if you would like to pay it forward you can donate to a charity or organization of your choice.Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming WOW WHAT A RIDE!
