Paul N. Weaver, Jr. Paul N. Weaver, Jr., age 86, was united with his heavenly Father on May 23, 2014. Paul was born in Oklahoma City on August 30, 1927 to Paul and Adis Weaver. He overcame significant circumstantial challenges to complete his Bachelor's Degree in Forestry at Colorado State University. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service in New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado for 34 years, retiring in 1983. He loved and told many stories about the work he did in the field for the Forest Service: manning look-out towers, spotting fires, putting out just-started fires (sometimes by himself), designing and building trails and roads, and managing forest resources. Deeply inspired by the sacrifice of life that older high school football teammates had made, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Navy in WW II and served in Saipan in the Pacific Theatre. He maintained a huge heart for veterans and talked often about their sacrifices being the basis for the freedom we enjoy in this country. Paul was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church and of the Two-Som Sunday School class. He often shared about how he talked with God daily and depended upon God to get him through his trials. Paul is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Weaver, to whom he was fiercely devoted. He constantly affirmed the strength of her character and how they overcame life's challenges together. Paul is also survived by his daughters, Cathy McCorkle (Sherman), Karen Goit (Carl), and Cheryl Goehring (Marty); his son Mark Weaver (Teresa); his daughter-in-law Susann Weaver; and by 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Paul Weaver III on May 14, 2014. Paul taught his family a love of learning, loyalty to country, deep gratitude for the sacrifices made for this country, an appreciation of nature, perseverance in adversity, and the crucial importance of making a contribution by doing your part. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Paul's heart for veterans and their sacrifice, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, at Fairview Memorial Park, 700 Yale Blvd. S.E.
