Paul William Straughan

Paul William Straughan passed quietly into the arms of his Heavenly Father at home in Canyon, TX on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. Paul was the third generation of his family raised in Vaughn, NM, where he was born, April 25, 1933, to Archie Benjamin Straughan and wife, Sarah Frances (Hamilton) Straughan. Paul was a 1951 graduate of Vaughn High School, Vaughn, NM. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June of 1952, serving a total of eight years, with four years as a Radioman, Third Class (Morse Code) and four additional years in the Reserve at the end of the Korean War. He served on the USS Bremerton, USS Prichett and the USS Basilone. He met the love of his life, Marjory Ellen Coleman, marrying in Vaughn, NM on December 20, 1956. They began their married life helping to operate the family businesses in Vaughn, NM. Daughter, Nanci was born 10 months later in 1957, followed by son, Hamilton in 1959 and daughter, Sara in 1962. Paul and Marjory moved their family to Albuquerque to begin his career with Dale Carnegie Training in 1967. After a very successful and highly recognized career, he retired in 1998 from Dale Carnegie Training as a Franchise Owner of Nebraska and a portion of Kansas.

Paul was preceded by his wife, Marjory in 2018; son, Hamilton in 2007; great-great granddaughter, Preslee Mae Wilkes in 2020; his parents, Archie and Sarah; and brothers, Lee and Ben. Paul is survived by his daughter, Nanci Straughan Saunders and her husband, Steve of Canyon, TX; his daughter, Sara Straughan Brumley and her husband Ricky of Topeka, KS; 6 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Paul is also survived by good friends David and Debbie Wilkes and good friend from a young age, Azeez Hindi (who would help him escape from Texas and be the getaway driver, if needed). Paul never met a stranger.
The family wants to give special recognition to a new friend, Nicolle M. with Visiting Angels who made him laugh and helped to lovingly care for him during his last days.
Also, special recognition to Enhabit Hospice, Amarillo and Visiting Angels, Amarillo for their excellent and compassionate care of Paul and the family.

At the request of Paul and his wife Marjory, having been married nearly 62 years, a joint Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, at 1:00 p.m. on July 19, 2022 at French-Wyoming. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at: www.lbda.org or a charity of one's choice.
