Paul Leuen Kouts passed away on October 13, 2021, in Albuquerque, NM. The son of Virgil Webster Kouts and Mary Catherine (née Riley), Paul was born on January 23, 1938, in Van Wert, OH. He was a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker) by faith.
After high school, he served 7 years in the Air Force and then graduated from the State University of New York with a degree in Information Technologies and Security. As a member of the National Speleological Society (NSS), he spent many years as a recreational caver and worked on several long-term cave-mapping projects in West Virginia. As a caver, he developed an interest in mining carbide cap lamps and did extensive research on the history and patents of carbide lamps.
Paul did extensive family genealogy research on his family for over 50 years. After finding and proving several ancestors as patriots of the American Revolution. He was inducted into the SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) and served as their state research genealogist.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil, and Mary; sister Mary; brother David; and great-grandson Kayden. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Linda Simpson; daughter Margaret (née Simpson), her husband Troy Parrott, and their children Cody, Caleb, Hugh, and Lillie. He is also survived by his ex-wife Gloria LeCates and their children Tevis, his children Alicia, Tiffany, Crystal, and Terin; their son Devin, his wife Helen, and their children Livia and Levi; their daughter Paula; and great-grandchildren Kylee, Kane, Kamden, and Eli.
