Paul E. Hepner Jr.

Paul E. Hepner Jr. MD, 82, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on November 8^th, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Paul was a gentle soul and kind spirit. He had a twinkle in his eyes and smile on his face that immediately made him endearing to others. He was soft-spoken but could also be a prankster with a silly sense of humor.

Dr. Hepner was an ophthalmologist in Albuquerque since 1972. He had a private practice for almost 40 years. His father, Paul E. Hepner Sr. was a physician and Paul decided to join the Army to put himself through medical school. He had lots of hobbies throughout the years (including photography, woodworking, homebrewing beer, racquetball and pickleball). He loved animals.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Anna Hepner, of 38 years. He is also survived by his son, Paul E. Hepner III and wife Melanie Hepner, daughter, Lisa Hepner-Winther and husband Michael Winther and step-son Galen Walker, and step daughter Shannon Walker. He is also survived by his sister Barbara "Bobbie" Hepner Stanton. He is preceded in death by his mom, dad and brother, Terry Masterson.

Mass will be held on December 6^that 10:00 am at the Church of the Risen Savior on Wyoming, followed by a reception from 12:30-2:30. Flowers can be sent to the Church of the Risen Savior on Wyoming or donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in his honor.
