Paul Gonzales, age 95, passed away on March 16, 2024, leaving behind a legacy defined by kindness, hard work, and unwavering faith. Born on March 2, 1929, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Rufino and Manuelita Gonzales (deceased), Paul's life exemplified love, generosity, and dedication to his family and his Catholic faith.
Survived by his daughter Teresa Sanchez and son David Gonzales.
Paul was predeceased in death by his beloved wife Frances, sons Simon and Michael, and brother Lorenzo Gonzales and his favorite son in-law, Raymond Sanchez.
His family circle extended to include grandchildren Raymond Gallegos and his wife Kitti Gallegos, Nicole Schmidt, Michael Martin, and Evangeline Gonzales (daughter in-law Melissa Gonzales); great-granddaughter Emma Jaramillo; great-grandsons Raiden Gonzales and Zain Castillo; and great-great-grandchildren Nevaeh, Charlotte, Vincent, and Luna.
At the age of 13, Paul's sense of responsibility led him to leave school to support his mother and grandmother after his grandfather's passing. He later served with distinction in the US Army's 529th Quartermaster Petroleum Supply Company during the Korean War, earning recognition for his bravery and dedication.
Paul's deep faith was evident in his daily visits to Sacred Heart Church before work. Throughout his 44 years of service to the Santa Fe Railway, he embodied the values of diligence and perseverance. His self-reliance and determination were further showcased in the construction of his own home, a testament to his commitment to his family's well-being.
As we bid farewell to Paul Gonzales, we hold dear the memories of his gentle demeanor, his unwavering work ethic, and his boundless love for his family. May his legacy of kindness and faith serve as a beacon of inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Paul will be profoundly missed.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024 at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church 2621 Vermont St. NE Albuquerque, NM. A Visitation will be held at 9:30 am, followed by a Rosary at 10:00 am and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am led by Monsignor Bennett J. Voorhies.
Pallbearers are David Gonzales, Raymond Gallegos, Michael Martin Gonzales, Steve Lujan, Stephen Naktewa and Martin Ortiz.
Interment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.
The family would like to thank Advanced Home Health and Hospice of New Mexico and Brook Dale at Home for their kindness and compassion during Paul's final days.
