After an 8-year battle with endometrial cancer, Patti (Hirte) Magnuson died on May 1, 2024 at her home, at the age of 66. She leaves behind her husband, Greig Magnuson; her sister, Ann Chavez; her nieces, Lisa and Lauren Chavez; and her nephew, David Chavez.
Patti was born on February 5, 1958, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Patti was raised in Albuquerque and graduated from Highland High School in 1976. She went on to the University of New Mexico to receive her Bachelor's degree in Biology in 1980 and a Bachelor's Degree of Pharmacy in 1983. Patti was a pharmacist for over 35 years and received the Roche Preceptor of the Year by the College of Pharmacy Class of 1996.
Patti was preceded in death by her dad, Abe Nungesser in 2023; her mother, Frances Nungesser in 1983 and nephew, Karl Chavez, in 2017.
Patti loved the daily walks with her husband, Greig, amazing neighbors, and her rescue dog, Zin. She also loved quilting, watercolor, traveling, and penguins. She was an avid Lobo men's basketball fan for over 30 years.
Her life would not have been the same without her best friend, Suzette Brooks, lovingly also known as "Piglet". She was always there for her and they traveled and laughed and cried throughout their 40 plus year friendship. The hundreds of purple tulips she brought her did not go unnoticed as did the many hours of talking, dreaming and walking. Her life was also blessed with her friend, Jan Dustin. Her constant kindness, giving and laughter made Patti's life a truly special one. To all her family and friends, your unconditional support and inspiration kept her going all through her life. Because of your smiles, they made her life more beautiful in every way.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, 10:00 AM at Central United Methodist Church Chapel, 201 University Boulevard NE, Albuquerque, NM 87106. The family would be honored for those that loved and shared in Patti's life to join them and wear her favorite color purple.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sunflower Sanctuary Animal Rescue, 25 Clauss Place, Tijeras, New Mexico 87059 www.sunflowersanctuary.org or to Best Friends Animal Sactuary, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, UT 84741, www.bestfriends.org, or to the charity of your choice.
"Remember at the end of our journey there is still laughter, kindness, forgiveness, friendship, love, and if you are lucky, a dog to help with all that ails you." Mark J. Asher- author of "All that Ails You".
