Patrick D'Orlando

Patrick Anthony D'Orlando, age 91, resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on November 19, 2013 at University of New Mexico Hospital. Born May 19, 1922 in Somerville, Massachusetts son of John and Colomba D'Orlando. He married Cecilia "Smitty" Smith on June 16, 1962. Patrick retired from the Unites States Army after 20 years of service. Patrick loyally served his country in WWII and the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Germany twice, Alaska, Washington, New Mexico and New Jersey. He received the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. He returned to Albuquerque after his retirement in June 1973. He was a member of The Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Albuquerque. Patrick was a lifetime avid Boston Bruins and Red Sox fan. Patrick & Smitty enjoyed traveling throughout the country to visit family and friends. In his later years, Patrick enjoyed watching Westerns and Classic movies. He knew the plots and actors of nearly every movie he watched. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Cecilia; daughter, Judy Finder and husband David, granddaughters, Mandy Tucker and husband Matt, and Michelle Gaumond and husband Wayne; numerous great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, including Julie Carius and husband Terry, Patty Calogero and husband Richard, and Lorraine Boudreau along with extended family members and friends. Patrick was preceded in death by his daughter Jenny Moran, and his grandson Larry Stonecipher Jr. The family would like to thank the Village at Alameda assisted living for providing a caring, stimulating and safe environment for Patrick and Smitty these past eight months and Home Instead Senior Care, especially Janice Mitchell for providing in home care during recent months of need. Rosary will be recited on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 8:30 AM at The Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church at 11401 Indian School Rd NE with a mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9 AM. Patrick will be laid to rest at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday at 2:15 PM. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Patrick's honor to the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Foundation, or The Shrine of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.
